This is for all you 5'5'' and under girls who have a torso that ends relatively soon after it begins. I'm a compact girl: decent size chest, short torso, a booty, and short muscular legs--although recently they have gotten leaner.
Either way, I'm not working with a lot of inches. Here are a couple of my go-to's to create the illusion of a longer mid section and/or legs.
1. As if you didn't already know, cami's are THE BEST. Not only do they cover the gap between your top and bottom, but they also give an unexpected shape boost! The first image is at a bad angle, but the cami saves my poor little torso. The second image is me counting my hard earned casino winnings, a total of $50 (#highroller!).
2. Beware of high waists and tucking your shirts in! High waists can elongate your legs, but also shorten your torso. Plus, if you are carrying anything up top it can emphasize that area...in the wrong way. The key is balance: flowy tops, tighter bottom, shorter skirt/shorts/etc and aim for a high waist that is just above the belly button...no more!
Note: You can tuck your top into low rise jeans to elongate your waist line, especially if you pair it with a thinner belt.
3. Watch where your belt and empire waists hit. The bottom of your belt should rest on the bottom of your belly button for a proportioned look. An empire waist top or dress should not start above the base of your bra--that immediately takes away torso length.
Note: Remember while thicker belts do cinch your waist, they may also take away some waist length. Play around with varying belt widths.
That's what works for this girl and this shape. What do you do to create accentuate your shape?
